Our delicious, award winning local honey comes from Epping Forest Honey Co., members of the Bee Farmers Association and Epping Forest Division of the Essex Beekeepers’ Association, which is affiliated to the British Beekeeping Association. They provide delicious, raw, local honey which is 100% natural, helping maintain its qualities and wonderful, unique flavour. They won the Excellence Awards Honey Producer of the year 20/21.
Their honey varies in colour – from clear and mild borage through tan urban garden honey to the thick dark dark honey of the late autumn. They have apiary sites throughout the Epping Forest area from Wanstead in the South to Fyfield in the north. Their aim is to provide quality supplies of genuinely local honey to as much of the area as possible.
Local sites include; Buckhurst Hill, Wanstead, Chigwell, Chingford, Chipping Ongar, Epping, Loughton, Stapleford Abbots, Theydon Bois, Woodford Bridge, and Bobbingworth.
Their honey has had the very least processing that can reasonably be achieved whilst maintaining the very high levels of hygiene demanded in accordance with the Food Standards Agency guidelines. Each batch of Essex honey is processed separately and identified, so that you can be sure that you are getting really local honey from your local bees. Each jar has a batch number and location code which identifies the apiary and therefore the general geographic location from which the honey has been gathered. You may be surprised to know that bees will fly three miles to get their favoured nectar.
Epping Forest Honey Co. have created unique blends of honey too! This includes lemon infused and turmeric infused:
Lemon Infused Honey
We’ve taken our Essex honey and combined it with organic lemon extract to create a unique product, the result a subtle lemon flavour throughout the honey.
You can use our lemon infused honey like you would any other local raw honey! It tastes amazing on parsnips, perfect on toast and scrummy on porridge. You can also use lemon infused honey with hot water to help to sooth sore throats when feeling under the weather.
Turmeric Infused Honey
Turmeric is the spice that gives curry its yellow colour. As a spice is has been used in Asia for thousands of years in cooking. It has also been used for the treatment of various aliments thanks to its medicinal properties.
Epping Forest Honey Co. have combined this amazing spice with their locally produced raw honey to produce a true superfood packed full of flavour and health benefits.
Health Benefits: Turmeric, and especially its most active compound, Curcumin, have many scientifically-proven health benefits, such as the potential to prevent heart disease, Alzheimer’s and Cancer. It’s a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant and can also help improve symptoms of depression and arthritis.
Semi Set Honey
This is local honey that has been churned for a minimum of 24 hours, then chilled. The result is a gorgeous, melted marshmallow-like consistency with the divine taste of our favourite local honey! Spread on your toast, crackers, stir into porridge or add to the top of a cake!
There is no artificial flavourings or processes involve in making our infused honey, which is why we are so proud of the final product.
